Charlton, NY — November 15 —Charlton Volunteer Fire Department members welcomed guest instructor Dan Gaidasz for chainsaw safety training during a recent drill night. Gaidasz, an experienced arborist with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, has also served on Team Rubicon's national storm and disaster response teams.

The seminar included safety equipment, proper cutting procedures, and decision-making when working with fallen trees or damaged structures. Although chainsaws are not used on every call, firefighters rely on them for emergencies such as roof ventilation or debris removal after strong storms.

Members also examined maintenance procedures to keep saws running smoothly. Gaidasz assessed the department's equipment and made recommendations to ensure reliable performance.
