Serious Head-On Collision Near RIT Leaves Multiple Injured, One Driver Entrapped

Hanrieta, NY - In the evening of 18 February 2026 at approximately 6:30 p.m., multiple Henreitta Fire District (HFD) companies, alongside CHS Mobile Integrated Healthcare and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office in Rochester, NY, responded to a severe head-on motor vehicle accident on East River Road near the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT).
Upon arrival, emergency crews discovered three individuals with serious injuries and one driver who was heavily entrapped inside a vehicle. Firefighters promptly deployed two sets of hydraulic rescue tools and utilized specialized rigging techniques to separate the severely damaged vehicles. Due to the extent of the wreckage, the extrication process lasted nearly 40 minutes.
A total of three patients were transported to nearby hospitals, with at least one reported to have sustained potentially life-threatening injuries.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is currently leading the investigation, and any further updates or official statements will be provided by their office. Authorities expressed concern for those affected and acknowledged the dedicated efforts of first responders at the scene, while urging the public to drive safely.
