GUILDERLAND, N.Y. — Nov. 17 — Guilderland Fire Department personnel joined North Bethlehem and Westmere Fire Departments for a joint training session on rehabilitation and decontamination protocols. The example demonstrated how rehab units monitor vital signs after individuals have worked in difficult situations while also giving them time to rest and replenish fluids.

The drill also highlighted decontamination measures, such as using soap and water to remove toxins off turnout gear, including regions around the neck, to limit cancer risk. The evening emphasized the importance of multi-departmental collaboration and ongoing training to ensure safer fireground operations.
