November 13, 2025 — Little Ferry Fire Department reported that two of its members successfully completed the New Jersey Firefighter 1 program, marking a significant milestone in their fire service training and preparedness. Both individuals completed the state-required coursework while balancing full-time employment.

According to the department, Firefighter Joseph Gingerilli entered the program with no prior firefighting experience or family background in the fire service, dedicating approximately 160 hours to classroom instruction, practical skills, studying, and examinations to earn his certification. Lieutenant GianCarlo Mosquera, recently hired as a career firefighter with the Hackensack Fire Department, completed the accelerated daytime program and finished his certification in just one month.

The Little Ferry Fire Department commended both members for their commitment, discipline, and willingness to serve the community, noting that completing Firefighter 1 requires significant personal sacrifice and determination. The department also encouraged residents interested in volunteering to learn more about membership opportunities, training, and community service roles.
