The Fairview Fire Prevention Bureau and the Fairview Fire Department continue their tradition of educating youngsters on fire safety, and taking their knowledge home to their parents. The local firefighters do this through their annual Fire Prevention Poster Contest. All borough 3rd grade students were eligible. This year's theme: “Fire won't wait, plan your escape.”
The contest was open to the 3rd grade classes at Public School No. 3 and Academy of Our Lady of Grace.
All participants were honored with a pizza luncheon at their school with firefighters. In addition, they were able to go for a ride on Truck 2's aerial ladder apparatus.
The winning posters were placed on display at Fairview Borough Hall, and then at La Fortuna Restaurant for the November 4th ceremony. At the restaurant, students, parents and teachers participated in the awards ceremony with plenty of food and ice cream!
From Public School #3, the first place poster was submitted by Ms. Huet's 3rd grade class. From the Academy of Our Lady of Grace, the first place poster was submitted by Ms. Dolina-Ruck's 3rd grade class.
The poster winner's names were added to the two trophies that are on display in the local schools. The winners, plus all participating students, posed for photos with their trophies for their proud parents and teachers. Fire Official Dennis Licameli told them, “Everyone is a winner.”
This program is a pet project of Fire Inspector Patrick Buglione. He is dedicated to educating the young on fire safety. Also recognized for their support with this important program were Fire Chief Douglas Wallace and Fire Inspectors Kristian Vera and Joseph D'Angelo. Fire Department Chaplin, and Pastor of Our Lady of Grace RC Church, Fr. Peter Sticco, was also in attendance to congratulate all of the students.
