Second-Alarm Fire Damages Commercial Building in Chatham

— September 9 — Heavy fire was reported in the back of a building on South Passaic Avenue, prompting firefighters from many Morris and Union County agencies to arrive early on Wednesday morning to a second-alarm commercial structure fire in Chatham Boro, New Jersey.
A report of a residential structure fire near North Passaic Avenue and Main Street prompted the Chatham Boro Fire Department to respond at around 4:33 a.m. When firefighters arrived, they discovered a large fire in the back of a business building on South Passaic Avenue, and a nearby business and residential building close to Main Street was in danger of catching fire.
There was a request for a second alert, which brought in more nearby companies. In an effort to prevent the fire from spreading onto nearby buildings, firefighters launched an offensive attack.
