Somerville Engine Covered South Bound Brook During Structure Fire

Somerville, N.J. — September 4 — The Somerville Fire Department provided mutual aid support in South Bound Brook while local firefighters handled a residential structure fire.
Around 8:22 a.m., Engine 57-1 and Chief 57 left Somerville to provide an engine for support while South Bound Brook firefighters worked at the fire.
The Somerville units stayed on standby for approximately one hour before being released.
The structure fire took place at a home located on Howard Avenue.
According to regional reports, South Bound Brook and Bound Brook firefighters were sent to the scene shortly after 8 a.m., and a second alarm was called in.Firefighters entered the building and managed to bring the fire under control in under 45 minutes.No injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported.
Cover assignments allowed South Bound Brook personnel and equipment to stay focused on the incident while another department helped ensure fire protection in the surrounding area.
The Somerville Fire Department routinely handles standby and move-up assignments as part of its regular response duties.Department records showed 14 cover-assignment calls in its reported incidents.
The Somerville Fire Department, located at 85 North Gaston Ave., has served the borough since 1835 and operated as a volunteer department.
