Gloucester, NJ - Firefighters from the Star Cross Fire Department and mutual aid companies contained a heavy chimney fire Tuesday morning on Hancock Avenue, rescuing a domestic pet and bringing the incident under control without incident in Gloucester County.
Emergency communications dispatched first responders shortly before 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, for a reported structure fire involving a residential chimney engulfed in flames on Hancock Avenue in the Star Cross section of Franklin Township.
Ladder 43-3 arrived first due and confirmed heavy fire conditions involving the chimney assembly. The officer quickly requested the transmission of a Working Fire Box to bring additional mutual aid resources to the scene. Operating crews immediately stretched and charged two suppression handlines, mounting an aggressive fire attack to isolate and knock down the fire before it could penetrate the main living quarters of the dwelling.
During interior operations, firefighters safely located and removed an uninjured pet from inside the home. Through coordinated suppression and overhaul efforts, the fire was brought swiftly under control with no reported injuries to civilians or emergency personnel.
