Chelsea, ME — November 1 — Two personnel from the Chelsea Fire Department contributed to the suppression of a significant woodland fire in Casco, Maine, serving as members of the Maine Forest Service's Call-When-Needed (CWN) wildland firefighting crew.

During the response, Firefighters Kane and Howe collaborated with Maine Forest Rangers and personnel from the Casco Fire Department, contributing essential manpower to the multi-agency effort while simultaneously acquiring valuable hands-on experience in wildland fire operations.

Reported on October 31, a wildfire ignited adjacent to Coffee Pond Road and consumed nearly 20 acres. Adverse meteorological conditions, characterized by high winds and arid weather, significantly facilitated the blaze's rapid expansion, thereby complicating containment efforts for responding crews. On November 1, the Town of Casco announced that the wildfire had been successfully contained. Subsequently, personnel from the Casco Fire Department and the Maine Forest Service persisted in their operations within the affected zone to mitigate residual hot spots and finalize cleanup procedures.

The Chelsea Fire Department acknowledged the dedication, unwavering commitment, and altruistic spirit demonstrated by Kane and Howe as they extended their service beyond their immediate locality. This engagement underscored the significance of collaborative training and operational synergy between municipal fire departments and state-level agencies.

Representing Chelsea, both firefighters participated in a complex incident necessitating multi-agency coordination; their contributions not only bolstered the overall response effort but also enriched their expertise in wildland firefighting.
