— October 26, 2026 — Engine 3 from the Bridgewater Fire Department went to Spring Street in Brockton on Monday morning to help fight a five-alarm fire at a multi-family home. Engine 3 operated on mutual aid as Bridgewater’s Group 4 covered Station 2, and off-duty staff were called in to help maintain staffing.
The fire was reported at roughly eight twenty-one AM. The address is 303 Spring Street. Crew members from the Brockton Fire Department arrived first and discovered flames at the front of the building. The incident escalated to five alarms, attracting additional resources from nearby departments.
Firefighters used ground ladders to rescue five residents from the second floor. Four firefighters and several residents were transported to hospitals for evaluation. A mayday was declared after a firefighter searching the building ran low on air; he was able to exit by a ground ladder.
Mutual-aid departments reported at the scene included Avon, Holbrook, Stoughton and Whitman, along with Bridgewater Engine 3. More than 70 firefighters were reported to have taken part in the operation.
The Bridgewater assignment also required additional staffing at home. Group 4 covered Station 2 while off-duty personnel were called in, helping maintain response coverage as Engine 3 assisted Brockton.
The cause of the fire was initially under investigation. The incident highlights the coordination required between departments during a major fire, including both on-scene mutual aid and station coverage for neighboring communities.
