Owls Head, ME - Volunteer firefighters from the Owls Head Fire Department responded promptly Tuesday to extinguish an active heavy machinery fire before it could trigger an uncontrolled spread into a neighboring burn pile.
Crews were dispatched on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, following emergency calls reporting an excavator engulfed in flames. Initial dispatch updates confirmed that no injuries were reported and nearby structures were not immediately exposed to the fire.
Apparatus rolled from quarters shortly after dispatch, and arriving firefighters initiated a direct, aggressive fire attack to knock down the main body of fire enveloping the excavator.
After successfully quenching the heavy equipment, crews transitioned their hose lines to address and thoroughly soak a large, permitted brush pile directly adjacent to the machinery, ensuring all hot spots and ember spread were eliminated.
Department leadership commended the dedicated volunteer members for their rapid turnout, efficient equipment deployment, and continuous commitment to rigorous training, all of which contributed to resolving the incident safely and effectively.
