Avon, Conn. — October 11 —The Avon Volunteer Fire Department quickly contained a fire in a recyclable cardboard compactor behind HomeGoods on Saturday afternoon. Smoke entered the store’s storage area, prompting an evacuation for about an hour while crews ventilated the building.
Mutual aid from the Simsbury Volunteer Fire Company assisted in securing the scene. No injuries were reported, and customers and staff safely returned once the area was cleared.
