Avon Firefighters Mark Fire Prevention Week with School Visits

Avon, Conn. — October 11 — The Avon Volunteer Fire Department wrapped up Fire Prevention Week with classroom visits to Pine Grove and Roaring Brook Schools, reinforcing core safety lessons for students. Firefighters demonstrated “stop, drop, and roll,” crawling low under smoke, and discussed home escape plans and fire prevention basics.
Students explored the department’s engines and learned about the tools firefighters use during emergencies. Department officials said the annual school visits remain a key part of their mission to promote safety awareness and strengthen community ties.
