Firefighters from several departments responded to an early-morning residential structure fire after police officers on patrol discovered flames coming from a two-story home and assisted a resident to safety.

The fire was reported at approximately 1:32 a.m. on October 31, 2026, at 9 Fayette Street in Waterloo, New York. Waterloo Fire Department responded along with Seneca Falls and Fayette fire departments, Geneva Fire Department's FAST team, and North Seneca Ambulance.

Waterloo Police Officer Robson and Sergeant Webb assisted the home's lone occupant after flames were spotted coming from an attic vent. Arriving firefighters encountered a working attic fire and began suppression operations.

Additional mutual aid was requested from Junius Fire Department, while Border City and Oaks Corners fire departments were placed on standby to provide emergency coverage. NYSEG and Seneca County personnel also assisted during the incident.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control, and no injuries were reported. Following an investigation, the Seneca County Fire Investigation Team determined that the fire was accidental and associated with a ceiling light fixture.
