Franklin Square, N.Y. — October 18 — Upon receiving a report of a fire at a private residence situated on Barbara Boulevard, adjacent to Fairway Drive, emergency personnel from both the Franklin Square and Munson Fire Departments were dispatched to the scene. Upon reaching the scene, firefighters discovered an active blaze on the second floor of the residence.
Engine 711 deployed two hose lines, connecting them to the system and initiating their attack. The crew diligently worked to suppress the fire while simultaneously preventing its spread throughout the building's interior.
Roughly 70 firefighters mobilized to address the incident, achieving control of the blaze within half an hour. Operational support was provided by mutual aid companies drawn from New Hyde Park, Garden City, West Hempstead, and Garden City Park.
Prior to the arrival of fire suppression personnel, two individuals had already evacuated the residence. Emergency medical services providers conducted an on-scene assessment of both occupants, yet neither elected to proceed to a medical facility .Furthermore, no injuries were sustained by any firefighters or first responders.
Following an assessment by the Town of Hempstead Building Department, the residence was deemed uninhabitable, a determination that necessitated the displacement of its three occupants due to the fire. All fire department operations were overseen by Chief of Department Justin Pons. The Nassau County Fire Marshal's Office continues to investigate the origin of the blaze.
Based at its headquarters located at 841 Liberty Place in Franklin Square, the Franklin Square and Munson Fire Department responded to the incident, which underscored the critical necessity of coordinated fire suppression and mutual aid protocols when addressing residential emergencies.
