Hammonton, NJ - An early morning emergency response to a reported brush fire quickly escalated into a major structural operation Thursday when firefighters encountered a fully involved building blaze along a rural intersection in Hammonton.

Personnel from the Hammonton Fire Department were dispatched shortly after 3:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 15, 2026, for initial reports of a brush or woods fire burning near the intersection of Weymouth Road and Egg Harbor Road.

Arriving on scene, Assistant Chief Jim Day quickly determined that the incident was not a routine wildland fire, but rather an advanced, fully involved structure fire with heavy flames threatening surrounding vegetation.

Chief Day immediately transmitted an "all-hands" working fire assignment, mobilizing additional departmental staffing and summoning regional mutual aid companies to provide fireground support and heavy water delivery.

Operating companies established heavy water supplies utilizing large-diameter supply lines and set up two aerial apparatus to deploy elevated master streams onto the burning building.

The high-volume defensive attack successfully curbed the intense thermal column, knocked down the bulk of the fire, and contained the perimeter to ensure the flames did not extend into the adjacent woodland areas.
