Demarest, NJ - Fresh off a community outreach assignment, members of the Demarest Fire Department Squad Company were called into neighboring Norwood on Tuesday afternoon to assist at a working second-alarm residential structure fire.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, on Glenn Avenue in Norwood. Initial dispatch units arriving on scene encountered an advanced fire originating in the home's attached garage, which had begun breaching the residence through an interior access door. The escalating fire conditions prompted incident commanders to transmit a second alarm, drawing in mutual aid apparatus and staffing from several surrounding Northern Valley departments.
Demarest’s Squad Company was requested just as members were wrapping up a Fire Prevention Week educational detail at the Luther Lee Emerson School. Responding directly to Glenn Avenue, the crew was tasked with operations on the structure's second floor, conducting methodical searches to check for hidden fire extension within the walls and ceiling voids while coordinating tactical ventilation to clear heavy heat and smoke banks.
Working in tandem with first-due companies, crews brought the fire under control and halted its spread through the living quarters. Demarest personnel operated on scene for just over an hour before being officially released by Norwood command to return to quarters.
