A two-alarm residential fire brought firefighters from several departments to a multi-unit building, where crews encountered heavy fire conditions and difficult interior access. One occupant died, and two others were transported to the hospital.
At approximately 6:36 a.m. on October 14, 2026, Bangor firefighters responded to 72 Cedar Street, near Second Street in Bangor, Maine. First-arriving companies found an active structure fire and received reports of an occupant still inside. Crews began fire suppression and search operations, with heavy interior clutter complicating access. The incident was upgraded to a second alarm.
Mutual-aid companies from Brewer, Holden, Orono and the Maine Air National Guard assisted at the scene, while Glenburn and Hermon provided station coverage. Firefighters brought the fire under control at approximately 7:30 a.m., with crews remaining on scene for additional operations.
One occupant was found deceased inside the building. Two others were treated for smoke inhalation and later released from the hospital. A dog and a cat also died in the fire. The Maine State Fire Marshal's Office and Bangor Police Department investigated the incident, with the cause remaining undetermined in the latest available reports.
