Islip, NY - Volunteer firefighters from the Islip Fire Department, alongside regional emergency medical crews and county police emergency service personnel, executed a rapid extrication Friday evening following a two-vehicle collision that left an overturned car with a driver trapped inside.
Emergency units were dispatched at 6:16 p.m. on Friday, October 23, 2026, to the intersection of the Eastbound Sunrise Highway Service Road and Saxon Avenue for a reported crash with rollover and entrapment. Responding companies from the Islip Fire Department and Exchange Ambulance of the Islips arrived to discover a two-car impact, with one vehicle resting on its roof and the operator mechanically pinned within the wreckage.
Islip firefighters stabilized the overturned vehicle and coordinated directly with officers from the Suffolk County Police Department Emergency Service Section to perform a systematic extrication utilizing hydraulic rescue tools. Once the vehicle's structural components were displaced and the driver was freed, medical personnel took custody of the patient.
Exchange Ambulance paramedics treated two individuals involved in the crash and transported both patients to South Shore University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police units secured the surrounding service road lanes to conduct traffic diversion and scene investigation throughout the rescue operation.
