Brush Fire Contained Near Route 11 and South Hill Road in Cortlandville

On Monday, October 6, 2025, at approximately 4:21 p.m., the Cortlandville Fire Department responded to reports of a brush fire near Route 11 and South Hill Road. Upon arrival, crews discovered a downed power line igniting nearby leaves and vegetation.


Mutual aid was provided by the Virgil, Marathon, McGraw, and Homer Fire Departments. Firefighters worked for about two hours to contain and extinguish the roughly five-acre blaze, using shovels and rakes to remove vegetation and eliminate hot spots.


National Grid personnel also arrived on the scene to secure the power hazard and begin restoring electricity to affected areas. No injuries or structural damage were reported.
