Deposit, N.Y. — October 2 — In the afternoon hours of October 2, the Deposit Fire Department and Eastern Broome Emergency Services responded to a fourth-party report of a house fire along State Route 17 in the Town of Deposit.
When crews arrived, they found a normally operating wood stove in a single-family residence emitting visible smoke from the chimney. The smoke had given passersby the false impression that a structure fire was in progress.
Instead of ignoring a potential fire, the department stresses that it is better to be safe and call for help. In the field of emergency services, early detection and reporting are still crucial.
Among the responding apparatus were Eastern Broome Ambulance 8421, Fly Car 8451, Engine 22, Squad 22, and Pumper-Tanker 22 from Deposit. In the non-hydrant district, more crews were positioned at the Deposit station on standby, with additional equipment prepared for deployment. A tanker was also dispatched to the scene by the Hancock Fire Department in case it was required.
