Taunton, NY - Personnel and apparatus from the Taunton Fire Department turned out Monday morning to assist the Fairmount Fire District at a residential fire that was swiftly brought under control before flames could compromise the home's interior.
The alarm sounded at 10:04 a.m. on Monday, October 26, 2026, dispatching mutual aid resources for a possible structural fire in Fairmount. Taunton Ladder 5, commanded by Captain Taylor, and Engine 4, crewed by Firefighter Darling, were staffed in quarters and marked on scene within four minutes of dispatch.
First-arriving Fairmount companies encountered smoke showing from the structure and located an active fire burning on the exterior facade. Suppression crews quickly put water on the flames, arresting the blaze before it could extend into the dwelling and declaring a "Signal 98" to indicate the fire was under control.
Upon their arrival, Taunton personnel initiated primary search operations throughout the interior living spaces to ensure no residents or pets were trapped inside. Crew members concurrently deployed ventilation fans to evacuate light residual smoke from the property. All searches yielded negative results, and with no structural extension detected, Taunton units were released and returned to service within 30 minutes.
