Taunton, NY - Firefighters from the Taunton Fire Department mobilized Friday afternoon on a mutual aid assignment to assist the Solvay Fire District at a serious residential fire where an occupant was pulled from the burning dwelling and resuscitated.
The alarm was transmitted at 1:20 p.m. on Friday, October 16, 2026, alerting Taunton Ladder 5, under the direction of Lieutenant Cox, to respond immediately from quarters for a reported structure fire in the neighboring district. First-due companies arrived on location to heavy smoke and intense fire pushing from the residence, prompting incident commanders to promptly transmit a "Signal 99" to indicate an active, working structure fire.
Moments prior to the arrival of mutual aid apparatus, search teams made rapid entry and located a trapped resident deep within the heat- and smoke-charged environment. The occupant was quickly removed from the structure, where emergency personnel initiated critical, life-saving medical interventions on the front lawn before transferring the patient for advanced clinical transport.
Taunton Ladder 5 was the third apparatus to arrive on the fireground. The crew pushed inside to conduct secondary search operations, systematically scouring the remainder of the dwelling to verify no additional victims remained trapped.
Once the main body of fire was brought under control by suppression lines, Ladder 5's personnel assisted with salvage and extensive overhaul operations, checking for hidden embers and protecting personal property before clearing the scene after approximately one hour of operational service.
