Durham, ME - A violent collision between a passenger vehicle and a semi-truck early Monday morning closed a major section of Route 136 for several hours and left one motorist hospitalized with serious injuries.
First responders from Durham Fire & Rescue were dispatched during the predawn hours of Monday, October 19, 2026, following reports of a severe crash involving a passenger car and a commercial tractor-trailer along Route 136.
Arriving crews encountered heavy damage to the passenger vehicle and quickly initiated emergency trauma protocols to stabilize the trapped or injured motorist.
Paramedics treated one occupant at the scene before rapidly transporting them to Maine Medical Center in Portland. The patient was listed in serious but stable condition upon arrival at the regional trauma facility.
The impact and subsequent investigation prompted an extended shutdown of Route 136 across the Androscoggin County corridor for several hours, allowing emergency personnel to clear debris, contain spilled vehicular fluids, and complete crash reconstruction procedures.
The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office responded to lead the formal collision investigation before highway lanes were safely reopened to traffic.
