Wyckoff, NJ - Firefighters from the Wyckoff Volunteer Fire Department resolved a commercial fire incident Sunday morning at the Boulder Run Shopping Center after an equipment malfunction sent smoke pushing into multiple commercial retail spaces.

Crews were dispatched during the morning hours of Sunday, October 18, 2026, following reports of a persistent smoke condition permeating two neighboring retail storefronts within the busy shopping plaza.

Responding units initiated an immediate interior reconnaissance to track the source while assessing air quality and checking for hidden fire spread throughout the tenant walls.

Firefighters operating on the roof quickly traced the source of the smoke to an active, small fire burning inside a commercial rooftop HVAC unit serving the building. Suppression personnel swiftly attacked and extinguished the fire within the mechanical enclosure, systematically isolating electrical power and natural gas supply lines to secure the unit against further hazards.

With the equipment rendered safe, crews transitioned to smoke clearance operations, employing high-powered positive-pressure fans to ventilate both impacted stores and restore normal atmospheric conditions.

A comprehensive inspection of the surrounding roof membrane and interior ceiling plenums confirmed that no thermal extension occurred beyond the damaged mechanical housing, allowing plaza businesses to avoid major structural damage.
