Franklin Square, NY - Quick action by the Franklin Square and Munson Fire Department prevented widespread destruction Tuesday afternoon after an intense exterior blaze swept up the side of a residential property on Nassau Boulevard.

Emergency units were alerted at approximately 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, for a reported structure fire in a private dwelling. Upon reaching the location, first-arriving suppression companies encountered heavy, active fire consuming a substantial portion of the home’s exterior, with flames already penetrating upward and extending into the second-floor living spaces.

Under the operational direction of First Assistant Chief Joseph Gerrato, who assumed incident command, the crew of Engine 711 executed a rapid primary attack. Firefighters quickly stretched and operated two charged handlines, initiating aggressive water application to knock down the exterior volume before making an interior push to cut off the fire’s progress through the upper floor.

The coordinated suppression effort brought the incident under control in short order, keeping the fire from fully overtaking the structure. Regional mutual aid fire companies, including the Valley Stream Volunteer Fire Department and three neighboring districts, mobilized to provide fireground support and district standby coverage.

No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported, and the origin and cause of the blaze remain under official investigation by local authorities.
