Structure Fire Displaces Six Residents on State Street; Dog Rescued by Firefighters

Perth Amboy, NJ - On October 17, 2025, at approximately 5:22 p.m., the Perth Amboy Fire Department (PAFD) responded to a reported structure fire at 52 State Street. Upon arrival, firefighters observed heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear of a single-family home, prompting the transmission of a second alarm.


Crews quickly deployed two hoselines to contain and extinguish the blaze while conducting primary searches and ventilation operations. During the incident, Rescue 1 located a dog inside the home and successfully removed it. EMS personnel administered oxygen using a pet oxygen mask, and the animal recovered shortly thereafter.


No injuries were reported. Six residents were displaced and are receiving assistance from the City’s Relocation Officers and the American Red Cross.


The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the PAFD Fire Investigation Unit.


PAFD units on scene included Engine 1, Engine 2, Engine 4, Truck 2, Rescue 1, and Chiefs 1, 2, 4, and 5. Mutual aid was provided by Woodbridge Truck 1 and Hopelawn Rescue 8, while Sayreville Engine 3 and Truck 3 covered the city during the incident.
