Firefighters from Berks and Lebanon counties responded to a residential structure fire that required an upgraded assignment, tanker shuttle operations, and approximately three hours of fireground activity.

On September 25, 2026, at approximately 12:58 a.m., Bernville Community Fire Company and surrounding mutual-aid departments were dispatched to 8 Gernert Lane in North Heidelberg Township, Pennsylvania. Tanker 29 was the first-arriving apparatus and reported fire showing from the Alpha/Bravo side of the residence.

Chief 29 established command and requested additional resources following reports of possible entrapment. Tanker 52 and Ladder 30 advanced up the driveway while Engine 29 reverse-laid approximately 1,000 feet of five-inch supply hose. Additional tankers established a water shuttle to support suppression operations.

Mutual-aid assistance included Robesonia, Western Berks, Womelsdorf, Marion Fire Company of Stouchsburg, Strausstown, Township of Spring, Central Berks, Leesport, Neptune, Newmanstown, Shartlesville, Mt. Pleasant, and Keystone fire companies, along with Western Berks Ambulance Association.

Muhlenberg Township Fire & Rescue Engine 66 relocated to Bernville's station and assisted with tanker filling operations. Incoming apparatus staged while personnel were assigned to the fireground.

According to Pennsylvania State Police information reported by Berks Weekly, the fire spread from the area of a sedan parked in the driveway into the residence. Firefighters brought the fire under control in just over an hour and remained on scene for approximately three hours. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.

The home was considered a total loss, with damage estimated at more than $400,000. The Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal Unit determined that no criminal activity was involved, although the exact cause of the fire remained undetermined.
