On October 14, 2022, the Schaghticoke Fire Department, Melrose Fire Department, Hoosick Valley Fire Department, and Hoosic Valley Ambulance was dispatched for a possible water rescue after a individual reported a kayak floating in the middle of the river on Fishermans Lane in the town of Schaghticoke.

Firefighters arrived on scene and had a vehicle nearby and a empty kayak floating in the river. The first arriving units from the fire department requested additional units from mutual aid companies to the scene to assist in the search for the possible lost kayaker. During the investigation state police determine the vehicle nearby was not involved with the incident. Firefighters requested the railroad to shut down all traffic along the railroad bridge while first responders were searching for the missing kayaker.

Firefighters searched the river and along the bank and was eventually able to make contact with the fisherman that had left his kayak to reel in a large fish. The individual was checked on, and determined not to be injured. All of the units went back in service a short time later.
