Catawissa, Pa. — October 6 — At 4:34 p.m., the Catawissa Fire Company responded to a cracked residential oil tank in Catawissa Borough. Responding units included Squad 51, Engine 57, Brush 54, Chief 50, and fire police.
Crews worked to stop the leak and collect the oil using buckets to prevent further spread. Officer Hayes of the Catawissa Borough Police Department suggested using a shop vacuum attached to the tank’s fill line to create suction—successfully stopping the leak and limiting the homeowner’s fuel loss to about 10 gallons.
