September 21, 2025 — The East Freehold Fire Company was dispatched at approximately 4:40 p.m. to Freehold Cartage Inc. for reports of a mulch fire. Upon arrival, Captain Bailey (16-2-68) assumed command and advised county dispatch of a visible smoke column originating from one of the large mulch piles at the rear of the complex.
Mutual aid was requested from Freehold Township Independent Fire Company (16-1) to assist in suppression efforts. East Freehold’s tower and engine were placed into operation, with the engine laying 900 feet of 5-inch supply line to establish a water source. Tower 16-1 assisted in extinguishing the deep-seated fire while Freehold Cartage Inc. personnel provided heavy machinery to help turn over the smoldering material.
After several hours of extensive overhaul, the fire was brought under control, and all units cleared the scene at 8:30 p.m.
The department thanked all assisting agencies and reminded residents that volunteer opportunities are available for those interested in serving the community.
