Glen Gardner, N.J. — October 7 — Members of the Glen Gardner Fire Company No. 1 spent the afternoon training on drafting operations with Wagon 12, taking advantage of ideal fall weather to refresh pump operators on water supply techniques. The exercise focused on setting up and maintaining a draft from static sources — a key skill for departments operating in rural areas without hydrants.
Under the supervision of senior engineers, operators practiced priming, flow control, and troubleshooting. According to the U.S. Fire Administration, regular pump training and drafting proficiency are essential for sustaining effective operations during rural incidents.
