Residential Fire Quickly Contained on First Street Thanks to Alert Neighbor
Dunellen, NJ - In the evening of 24 September 2025 at approximately 7:20 p.m., the Dunellen Fire Department was dispatched to the 300 block of First Street for a reported structure fire. Initial reports indicated that the rear porch and side of the residence were on fire.
Upon arrival, Dunellen Fire Chief found that a neighbor from Lincoln Avenue had already taken quick action, using a garden hose to knock down the bulk of the flames. Fire crews conducted an assessment and confirmed there was no extension of fire into the structure. Damage was limited to the exterior vinyl siding.
The Middlesex County Firefighters Association/IAFF Local 3451 Haz-Mat Unit responded to examine debris for remnants of lithium-ion batteries and confirmed no remaining hazards. The Middlesex County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the incident, which appears to have been accidental in nature.
Assisting at the scene were the Green Brook Volunteer Fire Company, Dunellen Rescue Squad, and Dunellen Borough Police Department.
The Dunellen Fire Department extends sincere appreciation to the vigilant Lincoln Avenue neighbor whose quick thinking and swift actions prevented what could have been a much more serious fire loss.
The department continues to seek new members. Those interested in volunteering can message the department directly or email joindfd@dunellenfd.com.
