Bayonne, N.J. — October 11 — On Saturday evening, the Bayonne Fire Department was dispatched to a fire at 85 East 2nd Street, identified as EMR Recycling. Arriving companies found heavy fire in a large scrap metal pile.

According to Fire Chief Keith Weaver, the blaze escalated to a second alarm as multiple ladder pipes and fire boats were deployed to control the flames. The fire was brought under control at 11:41 p.m., and no injuries were reported.

The Hudson Regional Health Commission monitored air quality during the incident and detected no dangerous levels of particulates, though residents were advised to stay indoors as a precaution due to drifting smoke.

Chief Weaver thanked all firefighters and mutual-aid partners for their work containing the stubborn fire. An investigation by the Bayonne Fire Marshal’s Office is underway, though the fire is not considered suspicious at this time.
