Clearfield, PA - Volunteer firefighters from the Clearfield Fire Department handled back-to-back emergency assignments Wednesday evening, executing a rapid elevator extrication during an active medical emergency before being dispatched on mutual aid to a neighboring community in Clearfield County.

Around 5:50 p.m. on October 7, 2026, Clearfield Fire Department (Company 1) was dispatched to a local high-rise building following reports of occupants trapped inside a malfunctioning elevator. Quint 1 arrived on scene to discover the elevator car stuck on the first floor with two occupants confined inside, one of whom was experiencing an active medical emergency.

Firefighters coordinated closely with on-site building maintenance personnel to force access and manipulate the system, quickly freeing both individuals so necessary medical care could be administered.

Just as Quint 1 completed the elevator rescue and was preparing to clear the scene, the department received a second dispatch requesting assistance for Company 8 on a reported commercial building fire in Curwensville Borough. Quint 1 and Engine 1 mobilized immediately toward the assignment, but both units were cancelled en route after Engine-Tanker 8-2 arrived at the Curwensville location and determined the source of the smoke odor was burnt food, confirming no active structural fire.

A total of 10 volunteer members turned out to staff apparatus across the consecutive evening incidents.
