Fairview Township, PA. — October 5 — The Newberry Township Fire Department sent its tanker unit to Box 68-28 in Fairview Township to handle a second-alarm building fire on Corn Hill Road.
The fire was first reported on Monday afternoon along Corn Hill Road, between Valley Road and Kernel Lane.
It was upgraded to a second alarm as more resources were needed to support the firefighting efforts.WGAL reported that the fire was initially called in at approximately 5:25 p.m.
Newberry Township’s tanker helped with moving water and provided extra personnel to assist the crews at the scene.
Providing water is a crucial part of rural and suburban firefighting, especially when a fire requires more water than the initial equipment can supply.
According to the department, Tanker 31, which is also referred to as the Engine/Tanker, has a 2,500-gallon water tank and is equipped with a pump that can move 1,250 gallons of water per minute, along with 1,400 feet of five-inch supply hose.
The Newberry Township Fire Department is based at 2145 York Haven Road in Etters and frequently provides mutual aid to neighboring communities.
The Fairview Township Fire Department also noted that Newberry Township is one of the departments it regularly collaborates with through mutual-aid operations.
This response allowed the crews to contribute to a larger fire operation by supplying water and adding more staffing support.
