Wethersfield, Conn. — October 3 — Late Friday night, the Wethersfield Volunteer Fire Department responded to a serious motor vehicle crash on Route 5 and 15 northbound, just north of Exit 85. Crews were dispatched at 11:58 p.m. and arrived to find a vehicle that had rolled over and come to rest at the bottom of a steep embankment. Two occupants had been ejected from the vehicle and were located in the nearby woods with serious injuries. Firefighters set up a rope rescue system and used a Stokes rescue basket to extricate both victims safely from the difficult terrain. The highway was shut down in the area for an extended period as emergency crews worked to remove the injured and secure the scene.
