Oct. 4, 2025 — At 12:29 p.m. Saturday, the Jamestown Volunteer Fire Department (JVFD) was dispatched after a fire alarm reported a hiker trapped on the rocks near 609 Beavertail Road.
When first-arriving companies reached the area, Jamestown Police confirmed verbal contact with the hiker. She was uninjured but unable to find her way back to the trail. Equipped with specialized tools and ATV-1, crews began cutting a path through dense brush to reach her.
Meanwhile, incident command requested deployment of the department’s drone (D-1) and Marine 1 (M-1) to scout for alternate routes of access. After approximately 30 minutes of coordinated effort, firefighters successfully cleared a pathway and reached the hiker, who was found safe and unharmed.
The incident highlighted JVFD’s integrated use of specialized resources, including drones, ATVs, and marine units, to improve search times and patient extrication during rescues in wooded and coastal areas.
The official run card for the response included: C5, R1, C4, E5, SS1/ATV-1, M1, and E3.
The department praised all responders, noting the efficient teamwork that led to a safe resolution.
“Good job by all,” officials said in a statement.
