Frenchtown, N.J. — September 26 —The Frenchtown Rural Fire District (FRFD) highlighted the success of its resident firefighter program by featuring senior resident Peyton Hicks. The program provides tuition assistance and housing to participants who serve as volunteer firefighters while pursuing an associate degree in Fire Science. In return, residents respond to calls and train alongside career and volunteer staff, gaining hands-on experience in all aspects of fire and emergency services.

Hicks, a 2023 graduate of Frenchtown High School, joined the program in February 2024. He first became interested in firefighting after a ride-along and a car fire training with FRFD. District officials say the resident program helps build the next generation of first responders by offering a structured environment where participants can learn technical skills and develop leadership abilities.
