7 Departments Battle Lafayette Drive Blaze In Mastic Beach

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

Mastic Beach Engine 5-13-2 was the first apparatus on scene. Its crew stretched two handlines to begin an aggressive attack on the fire, while members of the Mastic Beach Ambulance Company provided care to the home’s occupant, who had reportedly been in the garage when the blaze erupted.

As Engine 2’s tank water was used for the initial attack, Mastic Beach Engine 5-13-3 established a water supply from a nearby hydrant. Mutual aid companies arrived quickly to assist with fire suppression, knockdown, and extensive overhaul operations. Firefighters remained on scene for roughly two hours.

Firefighter Rehab was established under the direction of Shawn Hester of the Mastic Beach Ambulance Company, with additional support from Shirley Ambulance and Mastic Ambulance. One Civilian was taken to a local hospital.  Fortunately, no firefighter injuries were reported.

Mutual aid was provided by the Mastic, Brookhaven, Center Moriches, Manorville, Bellport, and Yaphank Fire Departments. Suffolk County Fire Rescue and Emergency Services coordinators also responded to the scene.

The fire was later turned over to the Brookhaven Town Fire Marshal’s Office for investigation.
