Roseland Firefighters Confine Saturday Night Blaze to Davenport Avenue Garage

Roseland, NJ - Firefighters launched an aggressive, coordinated attack Saturday night to knock down a working garage fire on Davenport Avenue, successfully containing the flames to the garage area and preventing extension into the living quarters of the home.

At approximately 9:40 p.m. on September 5, the Roseland Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to Davenport Avenue following 911 reports of an active structural blaze. Arriving first on the fireground, Chief 673 assumed command, confirmed a working fire, and verified with the homeowner that all occupants had safely self-evacuated the residence prior to the department's arrival.

Apparatus arrived in rapid succession to initiate synchronized fireground operations. The crew of Squad 662 secured an uninterrupted water supply and advanced an initial crosslay attack line directly into the burning garage. Truck 665 arrived to conduct search operations and establish horizontal and vertical ventilation to release toxic smoke and heat.

Simultaneously, Engine 661 stretched a backup attack line to reinforce suppression efforts and protect exposures, while Rescue 664 assisted truck company personnel with tactical operations. Utility 668 handled logistical support on the fireground, transporting depleted Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) cylinders to headquarters for refilling and retrieving dirty hose lines for post-incident decontamination.

Fire crews brought the blaze under control quickly, halting forward progress and limiting fire damage exclusively to the garage space. Mutual aid companies from the Livingston and West Caldwell fire departments responded to provide fireground assistance and coverage, while the Roseland First Aid Squad managed responder rehabilitation.

Preliminary findings indicate the fire likely originated from an electrical failure involving a battery or a battery-charging unit. The formal origin-and-cause investigation remains active under the direction of the Roseland Police Department.
