Helicopter and Multiple EMS Units Rush to Church Road Collision in Upper Township

Marmora, NJ - Three people were hospitalized—one requiring emergent aeromedical evacuation—following a violent afternoon collision between a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle at the intersection of Church Road and South Shore Road (Route 9) on Thursday.

At approximately 4:00 p.m. on September 3, a full Rescue Box assignment was struck for Upper Township, dispatching the Marmora Volunteer Fire Company, Seaville Fire and Rescue, Tuckahoe Volunteer Fire Company, and the Upper Township Division of EMS to the intersection following emergency 911 reports of a serious motorcycle crash with trapped occupants.

First-arriving emergency personnel encountered a chaotic scene with substantial vehicular wreckage, finding two individuals thrown from the motorcycle onto the roadway and a third injured occupant remaining inside the damaged car.

Recognizing the severity of the traumatic injuries, incident commanders requested mutual aid for two AtlantiCare Advanced Life Support (ALS) paramedic intercept units alongside a medical evacuation helicopter to transport the most critically injured patient to a regional trauma center.

Fire crews established a secure landing zone and assisted EMS with rapid patient stabilization and extrication. All three injured parties were subsequently transported to area hospitals via ground ambulances and the medevac aircraft.

Troopers from the New Jersey State Police maintained a hard perimeter around the intersection to manage detoured traffic and oversee the formal crash reconstruction and cause investigation.
