Vehicle Fire in Glenmont Lowe's Parking Lot

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

The Elsmere and Selkirk fire departments responded for a reported vehicle fire in the parking lot between the Glenmont Applebee's and Lowe's around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 13th.

An engine from Elsmere Fire quickly arrived on the scene and began extinguishing the fire, with a crew from Selkirk Fire arriving to assist opening the hood and to check for extension of fire into the cabin area, according to Chief Frank Wickham of the Elsmere Fire Department.

There was a single occupant in the vehicle and was driving the car at the time the fire broke out.

The driver noticed smoke coming from the vent of her 1989 Nissan Altima and immediately pulled over, according to Wickham.

"I give her a lot of credit," said Chief Wickham. "She parked the car in an area where there were no other cars around, away from buildings and away from people."
He added that the car was also positioned next to a fire hydrant.

There were no injuries reported on the scene.
