Quick Knockdown on I-95: 2nd Platoon Halts Engine Fire in Commercial Box Truck

Teaneck, NJ - Firefighters from the Teaneck Fire Department brought a vehicle fire under control on Interstate 95 on Tuesday, preventing an engine compartment blaze from spreading into the cargo area of a commercial box truck.

On September 15, on-duty personnel assigned to the 2nd Platoon—represented by Teaneck Firefighters FMBA Local 42—were dispatched to the highway corridor following reports of an active commercial vehicle fire along the interstate.

First-arriving crews, operating aboard Squad 23 and Engine 22 under the direction of Battalion Chief 2, encountered a box truck pulled over with active flames concentrated under the hood and within the engine compartment. Firefighters rapidly deployed handlines to attack the engine bay, establishing a direct water stream to knock down the main body of fire before the flames could breach the bulkhead or ignite the contents in the cargo box.

Crews thoroughly inspected the vehicle's interior and cargo hold to confirm no extension had occurred, successfully containing the incident to the front mechanical compartment. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported, and units remained on scene to secure vehicle hazards and assist highway units before clearing the highway.
