Bayport Deploys Across Great South Bay for Working House Fire in Fire Island Pines

Bayport, NY - Firefighters from the mainland stepped up Wednesday afternoon, deploying across the Great South Bay to assist barrier island crews battling a heavily involved residential structure fire in Fire Island Pines.

At approximately 1:30 p.m. on September 16, the Bayport Fire Department was activated for a priority mutual aid response to assist the Fire Island Pines Fire Department with a working house fire. A specialized crew of nine Bayport firefighters made the water crossing to bolster on-scene suppression and defensive operations.

Arriving personnel encountered intense fire conditions spreading through a residential structure. Working in tandem with several neighboring mainland and island departments, Bayport firefighters advanced handlines, tackled difficult access and environmental constraints typical of the barrier island community, and helped stop the fire's progression toward neighboring homes.

Through coordinated suppression and ventilation efforts, crews brought the stubborn blaze under control, preventing widespread loss within the dense beach community.

Bayport department leadership commended their responding crew for their dedication and professionalism, extending thanks to all participating mutual aid agencies for their teamwork throughout the challenging island operation.
