Pre-Plan Activated: Multi-Agency Task Force Quells Garage Fire in East Moriches

Centre Moriches, NY - Firefighters from the Center Moriches Fire Department deployed mutual aid Sunday afternoon, establishing rapid intervention capabilities as neighboring companies battled a heavy residential garage fire on Woodcrest Drive in eastern Suffolk County.

At approximately 2:05 p.m. on September 20, the East Moriches Fire Department was dispatched following reports of a structural fire. First-due units arrived to find a single-story home with heavy fire rolling from an attached garage.

Recognizing the potential for rapid spread into the living quarters, the East Moriches incident commander immediately activated the department's pre-plan mutual aid system to marshal supplementary equipment and personnel to the scene.

Center Moriches firefighters responded to establish the Rapid Intervention Team (RIT), positioning specialized rescue gear on the perimeter and standing by to execute immediate rescue operations in the event interior attack crews encountered structural collapse, disorientation, or distress.

Suppression teams halted the fire's advance and brought the incident under complete control in approximately 90 minutes, allowing mutual aid companies to be released from the scene shortly thereafter.

No injuries were reported among civilians or emergency responders. The cause of the blaze is currently under investigation by the Brookhaven Town Fire Marshal’s Office and the Suffolk County Police Department Arson Section.
