Mutual Aid Crews Responded to Little Compton Structure Fire

A detached garage fire brought firefighters and water-supply resources from Rhode Island and Massachusetts to Long Highway, where crews encountered fire extending into the loft and roof.

Little Compton Fire Department was the first responding department after being dispatched at approximately 10 a.m. on September 15, 2026, in Little Compton, Rhode Island. As conditions developed, additional personnel and apparatus were requested through the regional mutual-aid system, along with a tanker task force to support water-supply operations.

Portsmouth Engine 1 established a water supply from a nearby pond to support crews operating in an area without a municipal hydrant system. Portsmouth Car 3 also responded and assisted with command and coordination. Engine 1 is equipped with a 2,000-gpm pump and 730-gallon water tank.

Bristol Fire Department personnel responded through mutual aid, providing additional manpower and resources to Little Compton crews during suppression operations. Tiverton firefighters also assisted, with additional departments from Rhode Island and Massachusetts involved in the response.

The fire extended from the detached garage into the loft and roof before a partial collapse occurred. Firefighters continued suppression and overhaul operations, and no injuries were reported.

Additional resources included the Providence Canteen and a Fall River medic unit. While fireground operations were underway, Little Compton Squad 1 was reassigned to a separate motor vehicle crash on West Main Road. A Tiverton rescue unit was requested to assist with patient care at that incident.

Crews ultimately extinguished the Long Highway fire, with mutual-aid companies supporting suppression, water supply and other fireground functions. The cause remained under investigation following the incident.
