Tiverton Crews Responded to Excavator Fire

Tiverton, RI — September 21 — The Tiverton Fire Department responded to a reported excavator fire in Little Compton on September 21.They worked alongside local firefighters and other agencies at a remote location.
Tiverton crews arrived after the construction excavator caught fire. Firefighters quickly controlled the blaze and extinguished the remaining fire conditions.
Since the incident took place in a remote area, the Little Compton Fire Department stayed on standby with a tanker to supply additional water. The tanker ensured firefighters had a reliable water source while suppression efforts were underway.
The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management's Hazardous Materials team also assisted with the incident.
RIDEM operates an emergency response program that supports situations involving environmental hazards and releases throughout the state. The agency also has response plans in place for oil and other environmental incidents in coastal areas, including Little Compton.
This response demonstrated how local fire departments use mutual aid and specialized resources when an incident requires extra equipment or personnel.
The Little Compton Fire Department operates seven pieces of equipment from its single station and offers fire suppression, rescue, EMS, and other emergency services to the community. Tiverton firefighters completed their duties and returned to their normal operations after the incident.
