Fire Burned Wood Pile and Debris in North Yarmouth

North Yarmouth, ME — September 6 — North Yarmouth Fire Rescue responded around 5:38 a.m.to New Gloucester Road for a reported outdoor fire. Chief 501 arrived and found a fire spreading over an area roughly 20 by 30 feet, involving a wood pile, two ATVs, and other debris.
North Yarmouth B-57 and Tank 53 were dispatched to the scene.
B-57 deployed about 400 feet of 1½-inch forestry line and started putting out the fire. Tank 53 provided water to the engine, enabling crews to continue their efforts in the area.
Firefighters used approximately 1,500 gallons of water to fully extinguish the fire and conduct a thorough overhaul of the site.
Crews stayed at the scene for about one and a half hours to ensure there were no remaining fires or hot spots.
The incident was reported to the Maine Forest Service for investigation to determine the cause.
No injuries were reported.
Maine requires permits for many types of outdoor burning, including brush piles and wood debris.
The Maine Forest Service advises residents to check fire conditions and local regulations before burning.State law also mandates that outdoor fires must be completely extinguished before they are left unattended.
