BAYONNE, N.J. (Sept. 15, 2025) — A basement fire in a multi-unit building early Monday was traced to a charging e-bike, officials said.

The Bayonne Fire Department was dispatched at 2:45 a.m. to 1080 John F. Kennedy Boulevard. Crews found a fire in a basement apartment and used a handline to knock down the flames. The blaze was declared under control at 3:09 a.m.

All occupants evacuated safely, and no injuries were reported, Acting Deputy Chief Teddy Wolf said in a statement.

Fire Chief Keith Weaver urged residents to use caution with lithium-ion products, especially e-bikes, and said the department will re-issue safety information this week.
